A possible ninth planet in the Solar System may have been found by astronomers.

In the last few years, scientists have been exploring the potential existence of a ninth planet in our Solar System. Despite acknowledging eight planets currently, this number may soon be revised due to the efforts of astronomers who support the idea of a massive celestial object located well beyond Neptune.

The proof of the Trans-Neptunian Objects (TNOs)

The potential of the new planet, still unknown, is said to be significant enough to cluster Trans-Neptunian objects (TNOs) into elliptical and inclined orbits around the heliosphere. These objects, located past Neptune and orbiting the Sun, display behaviors indicating the gravitational impact of a sizable unidentified planet.

This theory is similar to how Neptune was discovered in 1846, with astronomers predicting its existence by studying anomalies in Uranus’s orbit. Similarly, modern astronomers are studying anomalies in TNO orbits to anticipate the existence of the ninth planet.

The hunt for Planet Nine

A group led by scientists from Caltech has utilized advanced methods to explore this idea, employing modern technology far more advanced than what was accessible nearly two centuries ago. They are using analysis techniques akin to those used in the discovery of Neptune.

The specialists compared the characteristics of gas giants like Uranus with a different group of TNOs. By analyzing the orbital patterns and inclinations of these objects, they are charting the gravitational effects that hint at the existence of a significant planet.

New findings about the enigmatic planet have been found, strengthening the likelihood of its presence. Observations from the NTS are aiding astronomers in determining the potential location of Planet Nine more accurately.
