Pavel Durov, the creator of Telegram, predicts that the app will rapidly expand, comparing its growth to a “forest fire”, and expects it to surpass one billion monthly active users in the near future.
WhatsApp, one of Telegram’s main competitors, surpasses two billion monthly active users, lagging behind platforms like Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and WeChat.
Durov stated in the interview that he is dedicated to maintaining Telegram as an “impartial platform”, despite occasional geopolitical challenges, particularly in Brazil.
The company may consider launching an Initial Public Offering (IPO) in the United States once it becomes profitable. Meanwhile, it is focusing on promoting the premium version of the app, priced at R$19.90 per month, which includes various appealing features.
Telegram keeps enhancing its app with new features in order to retain current users and entice new ones. Most recently, the platform introduced a feature that enables users to design personalized stickers.
